Your host is Matias Sauyai, a legend in the Raja Ampat diving industry. Not many people have reefs named after them, let alone two reefs named after them, Matias however is the exception to that rule.  I don't use the term "legend" without good reason. I recently had the privilege of spending a week diving with Matias and it was a wonderful experience. Matias has fifteen years experience in the region, knows the waters, the tides, the hot spots and knows how to dive to the conditions.

I have dived Sardine Reef around thirty times, always at the split, always on a falling current, that's the way everyone dives it. The only person who dived it on a rising current, at the opposite end of the reef is Matias and it turned out to be one of my best Sardine dives ever. Matias clearly loves what he does, and still gets a buzz from it, his passion shines through.
